It's a mystery
The first time I heard about Chiloé and its magic was when I was a child, I remember myself reading about its folklore and mythology in one of the chapters of my language book in primary school. Chiloé was described, by then, and usually in just two lines of a text, as a place of superstition and legend with its own mythological beasts.
I never really understood what made this island so special, so the day I visited it I was very anxious as if one of those beasts was going to appear in front of my eyes one of those days.
That trip happened a couple of years ago. One of my aunts and I visited it and we didn’t stay for more than seven days, but it was enough to live quite an adventure.
Even though we weren't able to take part in one of its many ancient traditions, we did a lot of sightseeing around cities such as Ancud, Castro, Dalcahue, Quellón, Chonchi, Achao, and Curaco de Vélez and we didn't miss the opportunity to eat traditional food and take lots of pictures, of course.
I dare to say that this trip has been one the best I have done so far since Chiloé has stunning views, and the nature of the landscape round the main cities there makes you understand it has been able to escape of the development and modernity. Its many unspoiled areas and the wildlife that remain are good examples of what once may have been common. Being in Chiloé offers you the great opportunity of being surrounded by both beauty and variety, I saw gentle rolling hills among endemic species like lengas, coihues, ferns, and nalcas, like the ups and downs of a kind roller-coaster ride showing you this breathtaking landscape. Not only the natural environment is different and special, but also the atmosphere it generates. At times, the island seemed to be inhabited, like if its people were coming up with a plot inside those beautiful houses that seem to be made of wooden fish skin!
No wonder why it has truly been one of the best holidays ever. I found out a mysterious region where everything happens in silence, not in the shrillness or the heat of a city, but just covered in a thick blanket of fog and in silence.

what a beautiful place, I love the south of chile but I have never been there :( , it would be great to go and paint the landscapes there.
ResponderEliminari went there in 2020 and i think was the most beautifull place i ever seen, i fell in love with the colors of the landscapes, everything was bright and HD, with no smog
ResponderEliminarI also went time ago! As a person who has lived all her life in the north of Chile, in the middle of the desert, it was such a experience to see those landscapes. To be in the place where was born part of the famous mythology of our country and be able to go all over the island in a boat listening to El lobo chilote was mesmerizing. I plenty recommend it.
ResponderEliminarChiloé and its magic... can't wait to come back soon!
ResponderEliminarI lived my whole life in Chiloé, I went to school there and when I finished high school and I had to go to Santiago to attend College. I miss Chiloé so much, I miss my dog and my house, my whole family is there and my oldest friends.
ResponderEliminarMy family is from there ! specially Ancud. The most i love about the island are the one street towns and the island of sailing souls.
ResponderEliminarChiloé is a very mystical place! I would really like to visit it, by the way the pictures are very beautiful :o
ResponderEliminarWhen I was little I always wanted to visit Chiloé, I frequently saw photos of the place and dreamed of being there, I could never have that desire and over the years I lost interest, but even so, if I had the chance I would go.
